In lieu of decent weather...

Well its July so therefore we are experiencing the traditional unseasonable weather of British summer time. Its absolutely tipping it down today and the forecast is set the same for the whole weekend. Such a shame for everyone who's spent forever organising fairs, fetes, weddings, country shows etc, etc. We all expect summer showers but this is an utter deluge.

I've really fallen out with summer. I wear myself out hoping for a good forecast and then seething when its dreadful. Let's hope it perks up for the holidays. If my boys' birthday parties are rained off again I think I might weep. Poor A will be 5 at the end of August and he's never once had an outside party. Not fair.
So to cheer myself up I'm remembering a lovely visit to our favourite hilltop farm a couple of Sundays ago. We went to enjoy the Wool Experience, a day all about sheep shearing, but realised we'd gone a day late. Ooops.
Anyway we still had a wonderful afternoon saying hello the animals, wandering the woods and fields and eating their delicious Hilly Billy ice cream. Blaze Farm is such a simple place to visit and we get so much out of our outings there, up high on the hills, watching the swallows dip and dive around the farm buildings and taking in the views.
I got quite carried away imagining us buying this farm over the fields when our lottery numbers come up. I can just see us cosied up on a winter night, Aga keeping everyone toasty, jumbled crockery on the dresser, big old enamel bath in bathroom and a roaring fire in the sitting room....
A's favourite friend, Blaze the donkey.
Lovely memories for a soaking wet Saturday! Stay dry if you can.Xx

Thanks for all your sweet comments on my Midsummer trio posts. Glad you enjoyed them as much as me.

Thank you for the pictures, I really needed them - we are in the middle of a deluge. Loved A's pith-helmet! I hope it brightens up for you...

Just remembered, I have an outdoor birthday party to attend this afternoon, better dig out my wellies and umbrella.

Too bad you have a rainy weather.
By contrast, the heat is awful in Greece! Just came back from the beach.

I agree with you completely. I'm fed up of waiting for a decent summer. My little one's b-day is at the end of August too and I'm planning an indoor event (again)!

Beautiful pictures tho, hope those numbers come up for you.

If it's any consolation this summer is a bit of a mixed bag too here where we live in the Loire Valley. However I must admit to feeling somewhat relieved we are not having another three months of searing hot weather as usual: this changeable weather is just right for me. I understand your expectations - and disappointment of summer. I hope it stops raining soon.

Beautiful dreamy photographs. Thank you so much for sharing.

Its a sorry state of affairs when the raincoats are always packed in the car when we go on summer days out.

It's only just stopped here today - I've been soaked five times today just ferrying little ones here, there and everywhere. I do hope we have a nice August after all this blah weather. Fingers crossed for the end of August.

I could fall in love with those rollie pollie hills and the picture you paint of cosying up by a fire the aga keeping everyone toasty.

Ahhhhhhh, such bliss!

Well have a lovely weekend my dear and 'yes' I do think our paths will cross one day then it's chatting and sipping to our hearts content.

The weather has been a real mix bag this july- like you i often feel alittle let down by hoping so much for just ONE descent summer!!
the west country seems to be so lush and green cos of all the rain, but i would love the summer heat wave this summer hol- just for my daughter especially. So many children really hope for that in the holidays.
I hope your lovely A gets the party he's hoping for outside.
I love your piccys of the hill top farm...A perfect position over looking the fields- dreams are made of that view.
Enjoy the hols the best you can x
i have to admitt i do love the feeling of end of school! and looking forward to plans of summer adventures and being by the sea!

Beautiful Photos!
This weather is doing my head in a bit, but I have to be thankful that our school's fate, sports day and beach party (in the playground) didn't get rained on and the sun came out for those days. It had rained either side of those days, so we were pretty lucky. My daughter's birthday was yesterday and thankfully the sun shone, but today is a total downpour...

Thank you those beautiful sunny photos have put a mile on my face.

How depressing is this crappy weather?! Showers yes but this heavy rain is silly.

I'm wishing my tine away waiting to jet of to some sun!!

Raining here in Dublin too. Did fit in a quick walk along the canal this morning. The swans were blocking the footpath and would only let you pass if you fed them. When I win the lotto I'm moving to the sea, I have my house picked out in Enniscrone Co Sligo.

Enjoy the weekend.

Lovely, lovely photo's :o) Dunno how but I managed to keep dry all day! It's started to rain only after I've reached my different destinations. Despite the forecast for tommorrow it was red sky at night here, so maybe it'll be better after all.

Oh, dear, what to do... here we are in the US Midwest sweltering away under 90 degree F and no rain for a week or two now wishing for rain and a bit of a breeze. Wish I could send some sunshine your way and you could pass me rain. I spend the greater part of the early morning moving the sprinkler around the garden to keep everything alive...

Our summer just gone (in Australia) was exactly the same, it was much cooler and a lot wetter than it has been for many a year. I was grateful because we were in drought and very low on water. However in saying that our summers are quite a lot hotter than yours so a reprieve for a year was nice for a change, and it meant I could crochet :)
I wonder if it is just doing a cycle of the earth.

I was a June baby and can only remember one birthday party taking place outside. My favourite season has always been autumn and perhaps that's because the weather is usually so much more predictable. I got married almost three years ago in September and we had a glorious, almost tropical day down here in Cornwall. My daughter is getting married in early October this year, so we're hoping for another beautiful day.
However, no matter what the weather, I bet that you will give your son a wonderful birthday party to remember!

This weather has been pretty dreadful, I just wish summer would come and stay!

Better to have the rain than not! It's what makes it this green and pleasant land! Besides aren't we in danger of drought - that is what the water companies are telling us, so hurray for the rain. It won't last and luckily we don't suffer from too extreme weather so we get a bit of everything. Lucky us.

I am sorry to moan but I really agree about this summer. It has been overcast and boring. I hope it picks up a bit for people's summer holidays but am not too confident.

Oh, gee, Steff! Be careful what you dream for. We dreamed - I mean, really 'pie-in-the-sky' stuff about living out of town in a farmhouse and, phew, we can hardly keep up with the dream.;) It's a good ol' life, though!=]
